Man's Best Friend

This last week I lost a family member and a best friend. It wasn't one of the human variety; rather the furry one.  Perhaps that makes it all the harder.

Brody was always sweet.  Always there for you no matter what. There was never a risk of betrayal as there is with people as he would never betray you. Always willing to stay up all night with you when you were sick. He knew instinctively when something was wrong and listened to your every woe. There wasn't an ounce of malice in him. In addition to all of this was his utter joy in life. He would run playfully up and down the road; through the fields his ears flying up and down, feet speeding along with such a obvious joyous freedom and abandon. Never did he fail to greet you at the door with a wag of his tail and such excitement just at you being there. It did not matter if you were gone for days or mere minutes he was equally happy.  It's hard to imagine life without my pet and friend, I take comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering and in pain. Though he hid it well until the end he would never have wanted any of us to suffer and so we remember his gentleness and give him the same respect that I believe he would have given us if he had been able to make choices.

Riding in the car - He always loved this
