Friends

Such a simple word "friend" still it means everything. Tonight finds me thinking of one of my favorite quotations by C.S. Lewis: "Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival."

At times in my life things have seemed hard, difficult, there have been dark days; I am sure that everyone has. After a time these faded aided in part by those around me that I call friends. Some of those friends also happen to have the title of family, while with others there may be no blood relation but they are just as wonderful for choosing to be there.

The last few days I have had the opportunity to spend time with friends, perhaps not as much time as I would like (that pesky job I have, which is the whole reason that while they sleep I am on here writing :).  Still the moments and opportunities we do have the opportunity to share I know are making memories that will last a lifetime. In my line of work you see what lasts. Physicality certainly doesn't, nor do materialistic goods, the body breaks down, things are given away as life is downsized, but memories and the people that we share with them are what last, even when the people are gone the memory is still there and that's what to me makes up life both the bad and the good.
